There are different ways to download NMM:
By downloading one of the NMM archives, you will automatically get all
NMM applications, e.g. the Multimedia-Box.
Hardware requirements: you need a running GNU/Linux system (or
an other UNIX, if you want to use the sources). Most NMM examples and
applications require a graphics board with configured Xv extension
(type 'xvinfo') and a sound board or chip that can natively playback
different sampling rates such as 44.1 kHz. All other hardware is
optional.
Network configuration: To allow one running NMM system to
access another running NMM system, the port 22801 and the port range
5000-6000 must not be blocked by a firewall. Furthermore, access to
distributed systems is restricted to systems in your LAN or to systems
that are defined as alias, e.g. within /etc/hosts. Therefore, you have
to specify 'host1' instead of 'host1.domain.com' when using or
configuring distributed NMM applications, such as 'clic' or the
'mmbox' (numeric IP addresses are currently not
supported). Furthermore, one has to change the hostname of the PC to
'host1'. Please note that /etc/hosts must also include the hostname
and IP address of your system if no DNS server is
available. Furthermore, some Linux distributions include the line
'127.0.0.2 host1.domain.com host1' into /etc/hosts. In this case you
must replace the numeric IP address 127.0.0.2 with the real IP address
of your system. For distributed playback applications, you should also
set
up NTP.
You need to configure and test NMM:
